THE OWNER

Known for his innate ability to envision a fresh business, Ben rotated out of his ownership of local favorite, Standpipe Coffeehouse, in order to create a place for artists to approach tattooing in a completely unique way and in a more welcoming atmosphere.

Black Spot began in 2014 and within three years, upgraded from a 900 square foot space to a property that contains 9,000 square feet. It was an abandoned property with maximum potential. The space was quickly modernized with Ben’s eye for aesthetics but the original brick of the 1940s Oldsmobile dealership remains, along with its charm.

The studio is housed by the main room with floor to ceiling south-facing windows, and there’s plenty more beyond it…

Laura’s journey with Black Spot began with her and her husband as frequent clients back in 2020. Laura’s obsession with the studio and the artists within it grew rapidly and before anyone knew it, she earned herself the role of Marki’s personal assistant. Excelling at organization, efficient response time, and people-pleasing, Laura proved to be the best person for the job so she now manages all introductory communication with clients including emails, Jotform appointment requests, and DMs from social media.
